Meet the Instructor: Susan Woolgar

From mountain scenes to prairie skies, agricultural fields and creeks to forested foothills, Susan Woolgar’s deftly rendered pastel scenes beautifully capture Alberta’s varied landscapes.

It’s all about the light. I try to capture a sense of atmosphere or quality of the day. They are meant to be suggestive — to capture a moment and capture some light and texture in an environment.
— Susan Woolgar

Susan Woolgar was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and raised in Calgary. Graduating from the Alberta College of Art in 1977, Susan embarked on a career in visual communications, working and freelancing for advertising firms in Calgary.

Once Susan found herself immersed in Calgary’s fine art community, she soon realized she wanted to focus on creating her own art as a career. Susan draws inspiration from nature and is influenced by the variety of landscapes found here in Canada.
