Meet the Instructor: Ruth Adams
Ruth Adams’s artistic practice has always been influenced by what she finds beautiful in her environment. Living in Medicine Hat since 2018, she has fallen in love with the beautiful colours of the prairie sky and the dramatic diversity of the landscape, from the Rocky Mountains to the unique geological structures found in the badlands. Another inspiration for Ruth has been the local art community and the rich history of the clay district.
“My art is always autobiographical; it is a physical manifestation of my experiences and emotions. I express my concerns and aspirations, and describe my connections to the people I care about. My work always reflects my love of bright bold colour and I am truly happiest when creating.”
Artist Ruth Adams was born and raised in the southwest of England, where she completed a diploma in Printing and Graphics at Plymouth College of Art and Design, followed by Fine Arts at Exeter University (with Honours). She moved to Ontario, Canada in 2004, where she was inspired by beautiful lakes, trees and an abundance of wildlife.
Ruth loves to share her passion and enthusiasm for art with others. She taught novice and intermediate pottery classes in Ontario. She taught mixed media classes for Hat Art Club in 2019 and 2020. Most recently Ruth has been part of the Artist in the Classroom program, and teaching online art classes for children through the Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre.
