Alexa Chykowski is originally from Saskatchewan and now resides in Medicine Hat, Alberta. She has been a member of the Hat Art Club for the past 5 years, and has been practicing art for 35 years.

Alexa is an accomplished painter whose preferred medium is oil paint. She is inspired by life and the world around her; she creates works that reflect her appreciation for everyday moments and experiences. Through decades of artistic practice, she has developed a style that captures the beauty and inspiration she finds in her surroundings. 

Coreen Sheardown is a Medicine Hat artist. She has been a member of the Hat Art Club and has been practicing for the past year. She is an eclectic artist and enjoys exploring different styles and techniques; she believes there is something to learn from every artist she meets.

Coreen finds inspiration in the beauty of the natural world, particularly skies, trees, flowers, and peaceful outdoor settings. Her favorite medium to work with is oil pastels, which she enjoys for their rich, vibrant colors and expressive possibilities. Through her work, Coreen celebrates the color and beauty she discovers in nature.

Doug VanRiper was born and raised in Medicine Hat and has lived in Redcliff for the past 48 years. He’s been a member of the Hat Art Club for 14 years and has been drawing and painting for the last 17 years.

Doug enjoys working in colored pencil, watercolor, and chalk pastel. His work is inspired by landscapes, wildlife, and flowers. His appreciation for the natural world is reflected in the subjects he chooses and the detail he brings to each piece. Throughout his time with the Medicine Hat Art Club, Doug has participated in many of the club’s exhibitions and displays at the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre and the Cultural Centre.

Leslie moved from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan in 2024 and now resides in Medicine Hat. She has been a member of the art club for just over a year, has been practicing for 7 years, and is a free spirit landscape artist.

Her favorite mediums to use are acrylic and watercolor, and her work is inspired by the beautiful landscapes on the farm she grew up on near Saskatoon and Northern Saskatchewan. She has had work shown in private collections in Toronto, Ontario, Airdrie, Hinton (AB), as well as Saskatoon, Humboldt, Prince Albert, Christoper Lake, and Emma Lake Saskatchewan.

Loretta was born in London, England, and raised in Canada. She has called Medicine Hat home for more than 50 years and has been an active member of the Hat Art Club off and on since 1977. She is an impressionist painter and creates landscapes, still-life, and florals that celebrate the beauty of the natural world and has been practicing for 20 years.

Loretta is inspired by nature’s beautiful shapes and colors. She is especially inspired by the way light transforms a landscape, striving to capture those moments in each of her paintings. Loretta works with a variety of mediums, including oil, watercolor, acrylic, and gouache, while occasionally incorporating pastels into her work.

Mable Mund is a self-taught artist originally from the Yorkton, Saskatchewan area. She has been a member of the Hat Art Club for a year, but has been practicing for 30 years.

Mable’s work is inspired by the beauty and simplicity of prairie life, ditch flowers, wildlife, and endless fields of grain that reflect the landscapes she knows and loves. Mable enjoys working with watercolor, acrylic, glass, and ink. Throughout her artistic career, Mable has managed her own art house, creating a welcoming space where people of all ages could explore their creativity through classes and hands-on learning.

Raye Trainor grew up in Saskatchewan and spent 50 years in Prince Edward Island before making Medicine Hat her home. She has been a member of the Hat Art Club for the past 4 years, and has been practicing for 20.

Raye enjoys painting a variety of subjects, including still life, animals, and landscapes. She works primarily in acrylic, watercolor, and gouache, choosing each medium for its unique expressive qualities. Throughout her artistic journey, she has participated in exhibitions with both the Hat Art Club and the Strathcona Art Club, sharing her work and passion for painting with the community. 

Sandi Lee grew up in Calgary, Alberta, and now lives in Medicine Hat. She has been a member of the Hat Art Club since May 2026, and has been practicing since she was 37. Sandi has explored a wide variety of subjects, including florals, landscapes, still-life, and portraits. She is especially drawn to subjects with compelling light and form.

Sandi has worked in many mediums, but currently works with oil paints. She began her artistic journey with watercolor classes and, within 2 years, was accepted into the Alberta Society of Artists. She later co-founded the Interpretations Artists Association, which became known for its successful annual exhibitions. After moving to Saudi Arabia in 1995, she taught art to adults in the expatriate community. After a successful exhibition at the Intercontinental Hotel in Riyadh, she began teaching members of the Royal Family, and many of them have become award winning artists. She has also exhibited her art at the Mary Titus Gallery in Carmel, California. 

Theresa Eisenbarth is an artist based in Medicine Hat, Alberta and is the owner of Eisenbarth Art Studio. She has been a member of the Hat Art Club for the past 3 years, and has been practicing for 15. Theresa’s art is held in both private and public collections across Canada, reflecting her growing reputation as a distinctive voice in Western Canadian art.

She creates luminous acrylic and oil paintings on custom handcrafted birch cradleboards, deeply connected to the prairie landscapes. Theresa is passionate about capturing the character of small towns and neighbourhoods, and is recognized for bold colors and signature embedded key.
